Still mourning: Mariah Carey spends quiet night on the town after Whitney Houston’s funeral

Dressed in all black, superstar singer Mariah Carey was spotted going to dinner last night in New York, shortly after attending Whitney Houston’s funeral.

Wearing dark sunglasses over her eyes and a black mini-dress, the We Belong Together singer appeared to be in a sombre mood yesterday evening as she walked inside Cipriani restaurant with a friend.

Hours earlier the 41-year-old made a conscious effort to blend into the congregation at Whitney’s ‘home going’ service in nearby Newark, New Jersey.
The chart-topping diva took every conceivable measure to retain a low-profile during the service and as she left New Hope Baptist Church.

Mariah and Whitney had been friends for years and performed the song When You Believe together in 2007.

Houston’s A-list acquaintances managed to honour their peer while not impinging on what was essentially an intimate church service, a way of returning Whitney back to her Baptist upbringing.

Mariah Carey: Whitney Houston’s death “was tough,” says hubby Nick Cannon

E Online spoke to Nick Cannon, who shared more about his wife Mariah Carey’s reaction to the death of her duet partner and friend, the legendary singer Whitney Houston:

“It was tough for many reasons,” Nick told E!. “One, knowing how close my wife and Whitney were, and I was in the hospital during the time, and that’s where we got the news. I was kinda in a life-threatening situation and then to see that, it was kind of bizarre and sad at the same time, but you know, it’s part of life and it makes you step back and reflect and appreciate every day for what it is.”

Mariah Carey to Attend Whitney Houston’s Funeral With L.A. Reid

Mariah Carey will be among the mourners attending Whitney Houston’s funeral on Saturday at the New Hope Baptist Church in Newark, N.J. She’ll be arriving with Epic Records chairman and X Factor judge L.A. Reid, Carey’s rep confirms to The Hollywood Reporter.

Others expected to be in attendance at the funeral include Houston’s ex-husband, Bobby Brown and their daughter, Bobbi Kristina Brown, Kevin Costner, Dionne Warwick, Alicia Keys, Tyler Perry, Rickey Minor, CeCe Winans (Bobbi Kristina’s godmother) and gospel singers Kim Burrell and Donnie McClurkin.

Aretha Franklin, Houston’s godmother, and Stevie Wonder are scheduled to perform, while Houston’s longtime producer and mentor, Clive Davis, will be a speaker. Many cable networks, including CNN, E! and BET, along with SiriusXM will broadcast the procession, and there will also be a live stream.

Carey recorded a duet with Houston, 1998′s “When You Believe,” and was often compared to the R&B singer as another of the so-called “divas.” Reid was head of Island Def Jam when Carey released her multiplatinum smash, 2005′s The Emancipation of Mimi.

Houston, 48, died Saturday at the Beverly Hilton. Her body was found “underwater and apparently unconscious” in a bathtub in her hotel room, police said. An autopsy was completed, but the results are on security hold pending a toxicology report.

Her body was flown into Newark on Monday night in Perry’s private jet; the casket was then driven to Newark’s Whigham Funeral Home, which is handling the services.

Whitney’s funeral will be streamed live today on livestream at 12pm ET (7pm South African time).

Nick Cannon exits WXRK radio show under doctor’s orders following recent health concerns

Nick Cannon, who has been hospitalized in recent weeks for kidney failure and blood clots, is leaving the morning show at WXRK (92.3 FM).

“Under doctor’s orders, I have been asked to cut back on some of my professional commitments to allow my body to get the rest it needs to keep up with the demands of my multitasking schedule,” Cannon said in a statement.

“Even Superman has to sleep.”

He says he will continue to host the syndicated “Cannon’s Countdown,” as well as his main TV gig, “America’s Got Talent.”

He is also involved in other TV, music and production projects, and he and his wife, Mariah Carey, are the new parents of twins.

He called it “an absolute pleasure working with CBS Radio and the 92.3 Now morning show team,” and said he will contribute to the station “whenever possible.”

Cannon started on WXRK in January 2010 as a star player in the station’s campaign to challenge long-time ruler WHTZ (100.3 FM) for New York’s top-40 audience.
Now has had some success, reaching the top 10 among its younger target audience. It has not significantly dented Z100, however, and WXRK program director Dom Theodore recently left.

The station issued a statement saying, “We have nothing but respect and understanding for Nick’s decision to step down from his day-to-day position. Everyone at the station and all of the CBS Radio family wish him well.”

Nick Cannon reveals he was hospitalized for blood clots in his lungs, enlarged ventricle in heart

Despite a full recovery from a frightening kidney failure scare early this year, Nick Cannon’s health continues to worsen.

The “America’s Got Talent” host took to his 92.3 NOW morning radio show gig this week to reveal he was recently hospitalized for two blood clots found in his lungs, in addition to an enlarged ventricle on the right side of his heart.

“It was quite serious. I was trying to downplay it a lot, even in my own mind,” said Cannon, who returned to work Wednesday after being admitted to a New York-area hospital last Friday.

Cannon, 31, said his kidneys are “doing extremely well right now,” but explained that his latest setback was related to his previous health issues that left him with a weaker immune system.

Having to continuously fly across the country to tend to his many job responsibilities also played a factor.

“I travel a lot. Anyone who flies a lot can be a victim to getting blood clots because it can start in your legs or your lower back (from sitting for an extended period of time). That, on top of my previous condition made me more prone to (getting blood clots),” he said.

“I couldn’t sleep because I was in so much pain. I was having a lot of pain in my back,” he explained, adding that his right arm was throbbing and his chest felt tight earlier last week.

Cannon said his doctor stressed how serious the situation was, but credited his speedy recovery to having good health.

“My doctor was saying that my work is going to kill me – and he’s not joking,” he said Thursday. “I think part of the reason why my health did kind of deteriorate was because I wasn’t resting a lot and I was doing too much. I was overworking myself, working out too much.”

Cannon, who said he is currently “feeling good” and “rejuvenated,” understands his warp-speed lifestyle needs to drastically slowdown in order for his health to improve.

Namely, the actor-comedian wants to be there in the long haul for wife Mariah Carey, 41, and their nine-month-old twins, Moroccan and Monroe.

“I always took a lot of pride in working so hard and never taking a day off,” he explains. “But I’m learning that it isn’t the wisest thing all the time, especially being a new father. Not only wanting to spend more time with my children, but wanting to be there for my children.”

Mariah Carey delays public appearance after Whitney Houston’s death

Mariah Carey announced she will put on hold her scheduled appearance on “Good Morning America” as she mourns the death of Whitney Houston.

As a Jenny Craig spokesperson, Carey was set to appear on the ABC morning show Tuesday to discuss a Jenny Craig partnership with the American Heart Association.

But her rep said in a statement, “Mariah is still mourning the death of her friend and collaborator Whitney Houston and thought it was too soon to appear on TV to discuss anything else.”

Carey, 41, had earlier said she was “heartbroken and in tears” over Houston’s death on Saturday.

“She will never be forgotten as one of the greatest voices to ever grace the earth,” the singer added.

Carey and Houston collaborated in 1998 on the duet “When You Believe,” which was featured on “The Prince of Egypt” soundtrack.

The ballad earned an Oscar for Best Original Song at the 71st Academy Awards.
