Despite a full recovery from a frightening kidney failure scare early this year, Nick Cannon’s health continues to worsen.
The “America’s Got Talent” host took to his 92.3 NOW morning radio show gig this week to reveal he was recently hospitalized for two blood clots found in his lungs, in addition to an enlarged ventricle on the right side of his heart.
“It was quite serious. I was trying to downplay it a lot, even in my own mind,” said Cannon, who returned to work Wednesday after being admitted to a New York-area hospital last Friday.
Cannon, 31, said his kidneys are “doing extremely well right now,” but explained that his latest setback was related to his previous health issues that left him with a weaker immune system.
Having to continuously fly across the country to tend to his many job responsibilities also played a factor.
“I travel a lot. Anyone who flies a lot can be a victim to getting blood clots because it can start in your legs or your lower back (from sitting for an extended period of time). That, on top of my previous condition made me more prone to (getting blood clots),” he said.
“I couldn’t sleep because I was in so much pain. I was having a lot of pain in my back,” he explained, adding that his right arm was throbbing and his chest felt tight earlier last week.
Cannon said his doctor stressed how serious the situation was, but credited his speedy recovery to having good health.
“My doctor was saying that my work is going to kill me – and he’s not joking,” he said Thursday. “I think part of the reason why my health did kind of deteriorate was because I wasn’t resting a lot and I was doing too much. I was overworking myself, working out too much.”
Cannon, who said he is currently “feeling good” and “rejuvenated,” understands his warp-speed lifestyle needs to drastically slowdown in order for his health to improve.
Namely, the actor-comedian wants to be there in the long haul for wife Mariah Carey, 41, and their nine-month-old twins, Moroccan and Monroe.
“I always took a lot of pride in working so hard and never taking a day off,” he explains. “But I’m learning that it isn’t the wisest thing all the time, especially being a new father. Not only wanting to spend more time with my children, but wanting to be there for my children.”
